Arbe (today Rab, Croatia)
The Arbe concentration camp (today Rab, Croatia), managed by the Italian Royal Army from July 1942 to September 8, 1943, was the most brutal Italian concentration camp of World War II.
Over 1400 people died there, including 163 children, due to the atrocious living conditions (poor nutrition, unhealthy housing, lack of hygiene and inadequate medical care) to which they were intentionally subjected.
Despite its role in the fascist repressive system, the history of the Arbe camp is little known in Italy.
The project's main objectives are two: to reconstruct the history of the concentration camp and to create a database of the people who were imprisoned there to remember them and pay tribute to them.
Thanks to the donations collected through crowdfunding, it was possible to realize the first step of the project: the creation of the website structure and the database.
The project is now looking for new funding.
